Carpenters Don’t Even Make Carpet These Days
It’s August. A lot of people think that the month of August was named after Augustus Caesar, but that’s not true. Little Caesars® brand circular pizza-inspired food was named after ol’ Gus (short for Augustus), but this very month was named after a Swedish woman named Augustine Gurnal who, in 1822, single-handedly invented the tape measure. You know, the retractable kind that carpenters use to measure their wooden planks and nails and whatever else carpenters use to carpent.
You might think it’s a bit strange that Augustine Gurnal got an entire month named after her just for inventing a humble carpenter’s tool, but it’s not that strange at all. I’m glad I could clear that up for you.
I don’t know how I’m going to segue betwixt explaining the rich, fascinating history of the month of August and encouraging you to go to a fun concert this month, but who cares about smooth transitions? Not me. Just go to a concert this month, okay? You’ll have a blast. It’s what Augustine Gurnal would have wanted.
